We leave in a couple days for a trip to Provence, France. So I thought I would Google to see how many hits I would get on the subject of “benefits of travel for seniors”. Of the 33 million hits, those selling travel packages for seniors was the most frequent. Followed by warnings about traveling with a check-list of to do’s, and only a few about the healthy benefits of traveling in your later years.
The following quote comes from a white paper published by the U.S Travel Association “Destination Healthy Aging: The Physical, Cognitive and Social Benefits of Travel”
“The above survey found that those who travel – regardless of age – claim to feel significantly more satisfied physically, emotionally, and financially, and retirees who travel are predominantly more satisfied with their ability to get things done compared to their non-traveling counterparts” As Dr. Paul Nussbaum, president and founder of the Brain Health Center, puts it, “travel is good medicine.”
Sounds like traveling is just what the doctor ordered.
